OpenAI reported on October 21 2026 that its GPT-Rosalind system identified a potential new drug-discovery lead for neurodegenerative disorders by analyzing mouse-brain gene-expression data.

According to OpenAI the agents examined results from millions of mouse brain cells alongside scientific literature and proposed that restoring cholesterol transport might protect neurons from degeneration in cases involving the DCTN1 gene linked to Perry syndrome. Thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents completed the analysis in 32 minutes during a collaboration with PerturbAI and Scripps Research and the partners are now expanding the effort to find additional drug targets.
