Agent Payments: Compliance Problems Emerge
Agent payments create compliance hurdles in the machine economy as software executes financial events, demanding permissioning, audit trails and privacy-preserving transaction design.
SourceAnalysis
Agent payments create a new compliance problem. If software can buy data, rent compute, pay APIs, settle services, and rebalance capital, every action becomes a financial event. That sounds powerful until the payment graph is fully public, commercially sensitive, and hard to govern. The machine economy needs more than wallets and stablecoins. It needs permissioning, audit trails, spending limits, privacy, revocation, and liability wrappers. The primitives are starting to appear: agent payment protocols, programmable wallets, stablecoin settlement, and privacy-preserving transaction design. The winners will make autonomous commerce legible to businesses without leaking the whole map of how those businesses operate. Robot money needs accounting.
