PeckShieldAlert: August Hacks Total $136.3M Losses

PeckShieldAlert data shows the crypto industry suffered 50 major hacks in August 2026, up 67% from July, yet total losses fell to $136.3M, a 49.5% drop from July's $270M. The Tectonic.cro incident alone drove $74M in losses, ranking as the fourth-largest theft this year behind Drift, KelpDAO/LayerZero and COLDCARDwallet exploits. The attacker bridged only $6M to Ethereum before Cronos halted the chain, stranding most funds on Cronos; the exploiter has since begun crypto exploit fund laundering bridges to Bitcoin, moving roughly 200K BTC so far.
