The agency raised 10- to 30-year buybacks from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation starting September 9. The 30-year yield fell from 5.337% to 5.18% within the hour, its sharpest one-day drop since May 2024 liquidity operations began.

US interest costs already reached $1.4 trillion over the past twelve months. OECD data show governments will roll $18 trillion in 2026, most of it refinancing older debt at higher rates. Japanese 10-year yields near 3% remove the main foreign bid for Treasuries exactly when the US must refinance the largest volume on record.
