AI Integration Transforms Financial Sector with Revenue Boosts

The financial services industry is witnessing a significant shift as artificial intelligence (AI) moves from experimentation to successful implementation, driving considerable business results. This evolution is detailed in NVIDIA's fifth annual State of AI in Financial Services report, which highlights the consolidation of AI efforts within the industry to focus on core applications. This shift indicates a notable increase in AI capability and proficiency across financial institutions.

AI Helps Drive Revenue and Save Costs

According to the report, companies investing in AI are reaping tangible benefits, including increased revenue and cost savings. Nearly 70% of respondents reported that AI has led to a revenue increase of 5% or more, with a notable rise in those experiencing a 10-20% revenue boost. Additionally, over 60% of respondents noted that AI has helped reduce annual costs by 5% or more. A significant portion of respondents is also planning to leverage AI to create new business opportunities and revenue streams.

The top generative AI use cases, in terms of return on investment (ROI), include trading and portfolio optimization, which account for 25% of responses, followed by customer experience and engagement at 21%. These findings underscore the practical and measurable benefits of AI in transforming key business areas and driving financial gains.

Overcoming Barriers to AI Success

The report reveals that half of the management respondents have deployed their first generative AI service or application, with an additional 28% planning to do so within the next six months. A 50% decline in the number of respondents citing a lack of AI budget suggests growing dedication to AI development and resource allocation.

Challenges associated with early AI exploration are also diminishing. The survey highlighted fewer companies reporting data issues and privacy concerns, and a reduced number of firms worried about insufficient data for model training. These improvements reflect growing expertise and better data management practices within the industry.

Generative AI Powers More Use Cases

Generative AI has emerged as the second-most-used AI workload in the financial services industry, following data analytics. The technology's applications have expanded significantly, from enhancing customer experience to optimizing trading and portfolio management.

The use of generative AI for customer experience, particularly through chatbots and virtual assistants, has more than doubled, increasing from 25% to 60%. This surge is attributed to the growing availability, cost efficiency, and scalability of generative AI technologies, which enable more sophisticated and accurate digital assistants to enhance customer interactions.

Moreover, more than half of the financial professionals surveyed are now using generative AI to improve the speed and accuracy of critical tasks like document processing and report generation. Financial institutions are also poised to benefit from agentic AI systems, which can autonomously solve complex, multistep problems, enhancing risk management, automating compliance processes, optimizing investment strategies, and personalizing customer services.

Advanced AI Drives Innovation

Recognizing AI's transformative potential, companies are proactively building AI factories—specially designed accelerated computing platforms equipped with full-stack AI software—either through cloud providers or on-premises. This strategic focus on implementing high-value AI use cases is crucial for enhancing customer service, boosting revenue, and reducing costs.

By leveraging advanced infrastructure and software, companies can streamline the development and deployment of AI models, positioning themselves to harness the power of agentic AI. With industry leaders predicting at least a 2x ROI on AI investments, financial institutions remain highly motivated to implement their most valuable AI use cases to drive efficiency and innovation.
