ElevenLabs Strengthens Election Safeguards for 2024

As the 2024 election season approaches, ElevenLabs is taking significant steps to ensure its AI tools are not misused in the political arena, according to ElevenLabs. The company has outlined a comprehensive strategy to safeguard democratic processes, focusing on policy revisions, user screening, and enhanced detection measures.

Revised Policies

In anticipation of the upcoming elections, ElevenLabs has updated its Prohibited Use Policy to include stricter guidelines against the use of its tools for political campaigning and impersonation of candidates. The policy explicitly bans activities such as promoting a specific candidate or issue, soliciting votes, and mimicking the voices of political figures.

Additionally, the company prohibits any attempt to use its technology for voter suppression or to disrupt electoral processes. This includes preventing the spread of misleading information that could affect voter turnout or election integrity.

Preventative Measures

ElevenLabs has implemented enhanced safeguards to prevent the misuse of its voice cloning technology. The company requires users to provide contact and payment information, which aids in identifying and blocking fraudulent accounts. Moreover, their "No-Go" Voices technology prevents the generation of voices for a wide range of political figures and celebrities, a measure that is continuously updated and monitored.

Detection and Enforcement

The company has also bolstered its detection capabilities with advanced classifiers and a dedicated team of human reviewers to identify potential violations of its terms. Collaborations with external threat intelligence teams and government agencies further strengthen their ability to detect and respond to misuse.

When violations are detected, ElevenLabs enforces strict actions, such as removing unauthorized voices, banning users, and reporting incidents to authorities.

Collaboration and Transparency

Recognizing the importance of transparency in AI-generated content, ElevenLabs is actively collaborating with industry partners through initiatives like the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). These collaborations aim to establish standards for AI content provenance, ensuring AI-generated audio is easily identifiable.

Furthermore, ElevenLabs is working with third-party AI safety companies like Reality Defender to improve tools for detecting deepfakes and other AI-generated content. These partnerships are crucial in protecting against misinformation and fraud during the election period.

ElevenLabs continues to refine its safeguards and remains vigilant against potential misuse of its technology. The company's commitment to ethical AI development is evident in its proactive measures to support a transparent and fair election process.
