xAI's Grok now automates tasks via schedules or email triggers, streamlining workflows for users. Available on iOS, Android, and web.
xAI has launched a new feature for its generative AI chatbot, Grok, called Automations, designed to streamline repetitive tasks. Users can describe a task once, set triggers or schedules, and let Grok handle the rest. The update, announced on July 16, 2026, is available on the Grok app for iOS, Android, and the web.
The Automations feature enables users to assign tasks such as summarizing emails, monitoring specific inbox filters, or generating daily reports. Tasks can be scheduled (e.g., every weekday at 8:00 AM) or triggered by events like receiving an email that matches predefined filters. Grok performs the task, saves the results, and reports back via email, app notifications, or run history logs.
For instance, a user could set up a "Morning Brief" automation to receive a summary of unread emails, calendar conflicts, and deadlines every morning. Grok's conversational AI processes the instructions and adapts to real-time data, enabling dynamic responses. Automations can also integrate with external tools using connectors, simplifying workflows for busy professionals.
Automations can be created manually or directly from chat prompts. Users simply describe the desired task, add relevant context or files, and save the automation. Templates on the Automations page help new users get started quickly. Advanced features like email triggers, however, are exclusive to SuperGrok subscribers, xAI's premium tier.
The launch aligns with xAI’s strategy to expand Grok’s capabilities as a productivity tool. Earlier this year, the company introduced the Grok 4.20 system update, enhancing reasoning and multi-agent functionality. xAI has also shifted its subscription model, offering weekly pooled usage limits for premium users, signaling a focus on balancing scalability and monetization.
It’s worth distinguishing Grok the AI tool from GROK, the unrelated cryptocurrency token trading under the same name. As of July 16, 2026, GROK token is priced at $0.00045527, with a market cap of $2.88 million. While the token shares the name, it has no connection to xAI or the Grok platform.
xAI’s Automations launch comes as generative AI tools face increasing scrutiny for ethical concerns and efficiency. In January 2026, xAI restricted its image-generation features following controversies over deepfake content. The addition of Automations, however, positions Grok as a practical solution for personal and professional productivity, leveraging AI to handle routine tasks seamlessly.
Users can start creating Automations now at grok.com/automations. Basic scheduling is available to all users, while email triggers require a SuperGrok subscription.
