From Open Source Beginnings to Industry Leader
Founded by Harrison Chase, LangChain began as a side project in 2022, initially launched as an 800-line Python package. The project rapidly gained traction following the launch of ChatGPT, positioning LangChain as a preferred framework for developing LLM-powered applications. Over the years, LangChain has evolved to support a range of languages and has become integral to the operations of numerous companies, including Rippling, Vanta, and Cloudflare.
Expansion and Innovation
LangChain has expanded its offerings from a single open-source package to a comprehensive ecosystem, including a commercial platform known as LangSmith. This platform provides observability and evaluation tools for LLM systems, addressing common issues like context errors that affect system reliability.
