NVIDIA partners with SB Energy to host exclusive AI infrastructure at PORTS-Pike, investing $1.5B and securing 4.25 IT-GW capacity for OpenAI.
NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) has locked in exclusive rights to host its AI compute infrastructure at SB Energy’s PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, marking a significant milestone in the company’s strategy to scale AI infrastructure. The project, anchored by a $1.5 billion investment from NVIDIA, will initially deploy 4.25 IT-GW of capacity, with potential expansion to 8 IT-GW, serving OpenAI as the primary customer.
The partnership underscores NVIDIA’s aggressive push to secure long-term AI infrastructure as the demand for generative AI tools skyrockets. "AI is becoming infrastructure — the foundation for intelligence in every industry," NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated, positioning the PORTS-Pike campus to play a pivotal role in this transformation. The facility will leverage NVIDIA’s full-stack DSX AI factory platform, integrating GPUs, CPUs, and networking for maximum efficiency and scalability.
Development at PORTS-Pike, located on a decommissioned federal site, will also bring regional benefits. SB Energy and SoftBank have pledged to create tens of thousands of jobs and invest $4.2 billion in local grid infrastructure. OpenAI, whose CEO Sam Altman emphasized the site’s potential societal impact, has committed $80 million to a community benefits fund supporting workforce development and local economic priorities.
Demand for AI infrastructure is at an all-time high, with NVIDIA leading recent market-shaping initiatives. Earlier this year, NVIDIA partnered with major private equity firms, including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, to assemble over $500 billion for AI infrastructure buildout. This aligns with other large-scale collaborations, like its $500-billion-plus partnership with SK Group announced in July, focused on next-generation AI data centers.
The Ohio project secures a critical piece of NVIDIA's strategy, offering OpenAI a top-tier facility to support its expanding AI capabilities. The DSX AI factory architecture promises reduced operational overhead and faster deployment cycles, key for maintaining competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
NVIDIA’s $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy reflects its broader move beyond chip manufacturing into end-to-end AI infrastructure development. With a market cap currently standing at $5.52 trillion and shares trading at $226.21 (+0.47% in the past 24 hours), NVIDIA’s growth trajectory continues to align with its role as the central supplier for generative AI technologies.
Construction at PORTS-Pike is expected to begin imminently, with initial capacity coming online in phases starting in 2028. For traders and investors, this is another signal of NVIDIA’s ability to capitalize on AI’s infrastructure demands, reinforcing its dominance in the sector.
