Sei introduces a new framework for community-driven protocol evolution, enabling developers, validators, and users to propose and implement changes within the ecosystem.

The Sei Network has unveiled its latest initiative, the Sei Improvement Proposals (SIPs), a structured framework designed to facilitate community-driven protocol evolution. According to the official announcement from Sei, this new system mirrors the concept of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs), providing a formalized pathway for stakeholders to propose, discuss, and implement changes within the Sei ecosystem.
What Are Sei Improvement Proposals?
SIPs serve as detailed design documents aimed at introducing new features or modifications to the Sei network. Each proposal includes comprehensive technical specifications and justifications, ensuring clarity on what is proposed, its significance, and the implementation process.
SIP Lifecycle
The progression of a SIP involves several key stages, starting from the idea stage, moving to draft, review, last call, final, implemented, and ultimately activated. This structured lifecycle ensures that each proposal undergoes rigorous community scrutiny and technical evaluation before being deployed on the Sei mainnet.
Strategic Implications Beyond Governance
While the introduction of SIPs marks a significant governance shift, it also has broader strategic implications. For developers, it offers a direct avenue to influence core protocol features and document technical decisions. Validators gain a formal channel for consensus optimizations and network parameter adjustments, while users and token holders benefit from increased transparency and involvement in feature prioritization.
First Ecosystem SIP: Silo
The first SIP from the Sei ecosystem, authored by members of the Silo team, focuses on enhancing validator capabilities through offchain transaction bundles. This proposal aims to optimize blockspace efficiency and fee revenue, representing a strategic step towards advanced transaction ordering within the network.
Progressive Decentralization
The SIP framework is a testament to Sei's commitment to progressive decentralization, empowering builders and users to shape the network's future. This initiative complements Sei's existing decentralization efforts, including expanding its validator set and open-sourcing core protocol components.
Join the Community Effort
The Sei community is encouraged to participate in the SIP process, whether by proposing new ideas or engaging in discussions. This collaborative approach aims to harness the collective intelligence of the community to drive technological and governance innovations within the ecosystem.
