Tether collaborates with Canadian law enforcement to recover 460,000 USDT linked to an investment fraud. This action underscores Tether's commitment to combating financial crime.

Tether, a leading entity in the digital assets sector, has played a crucial role in assisting Canadian law enforcement in the recovery of approximately 460,000 USDT, tethered to an investment fraud scheme. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced this collaboration, highlighting Tether's significant contribution to the operation.
Cooperation with Law Enforcement
On July 3, the RCMP's Federal Policing Criminal Operations Virtual Assets team executed a Special Warrant for Digital Assets, seizing the USDT, valued at around 640,000 CAD. The RCMP credited Tether's swift action and cooperation as pivotal in the successful recovery of the funds. Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, expressed pride in the company's ability to assist law enforcement, emphasizing their dedication to maintaining the integrity of the global financial system.
Tether's Track Record in Crime Prevention
Tether's involvement in this case is part of its broader efforts to support global enforcement actions. The company has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice for its role in a $225 million enforcement action and has cooperated with the U.S. Secret Service to freeze $23 million linked to a sanctioned exchange. Additionally, Tether assisted in the seizure of $9 million related to a hack on Bybit.
The RCMP, represented by Sergeant Ryan Berry, underscored the importance of timing in cryptocurrency investigations. Given the rapid movement of digital assets, early intervention is crucial to intercepting illicit transactions, making collaboration with private entities like Tether essential.
Commitment to Global Financial Security
Tether's proactive measures have resulted in the freezing and blocking of over $3.2 billion in USDT associated with illegal activities. The company employs real-time tracking and advanced analytics, working closely with over 290 law enforcement agencies worldwide. In the past year, Tether has voluntarily assisted in blocking 3,660 wallets, with nearly 2,100 coordinated with U.S. agencies.
