Google: Magic State Advance Cuts Bitcoin Qubit Estimate
Bull Theory reports that Google's latest magic state result lowers the estimated physical qubits needed to attack Bitcoin to under 500,000, though hardware and error-correction gaps remain large.
SourceAnalysis
Google achieved a 40x error reduction in magic state preparation on its Willow chip, reaching 99.99% accuracy and cutting the March attack estimate to fewer than 500,000 physical qubits.
The advance still requires demonstration at scale. Current hardware sits far short: Willow holds 105 qubits, IBM's largest chip reaches roughly 1,100, and the highest reported logical qubits stand at 96 from QuEra against the 1,200–1,450 needed. IBM's 2029 roadmap targets 200 logical qubits while its 2033 goal reaches 2,000. BIP-360 remains unapproved and Coinbase noted on 13 October that any upgrade would take several years.
Bitcoin trades at $82,449.64 inside a bearish structure defined by the EMA50 resistance at $82,986.46 and EMA200 support at $82,247.24. The MACD death cross at -386.94 confirms trend weakness while RSI at 48.7 stays neutral; price remains contained between the Bollinger upper band at $84,473.51 and lower band at $80,745.27, pointing to range-bound action until either boundary breaks.
