Matt Hougan: 90/10 Portfolios Could Send Bitcoin to Hundreds of Thousands
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan told Michaël van de Poppe that traditional investors are shifting from 60/40 to 90/10 allocations with 10% in hard assets like Bitcoin and gold, citing persistent $2.5 trillion deficits and growing debt as drivers for potential massive inflows.

Matt Hougan of Bitwise told Michaël van de Poppe that traditional investors have begun reconsidering the classic 60/40 portfolio after eight years of the same message, now openly discussing a 90/10 split with 10% in hard assets led by Bitcoin and gold. Hougan sees this mindset shift producing huge inflows and prices measured in multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars if it spreads. van de Poppe concurs, pointing to persistent $2.5 trillion deficits even in growth periods and the absence of austerity appetite as structural reasons hard assets become the logical destination.
Bitcoin remains Hougan's top risk-adjusted crypto bet, with ETH, Solana and Chainlink forming the core four holdings; he expects altcoin tokenomics to improve gradually from current lows. At the same time, Bitcoin trades at $82572.87 on the 4h chart inside its Bollinger Bands, testing the upper resistance at $84067.4 while the EMA50 at $83553.91 acts as immediate overhead resistance and the EMA200 at $82294.23 provides the deeper floor. With RSI at 41.87 still neutral and MACD already printing a bullish golden cross at -21.76, price action sits at a classic inflection where a rejection at the upper band would likely pull the market back toward the 50-EMA support before any sustained continuation higher.
