The reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions Liverpool FC have embraced Ethereum-based fantasy soccer gaming platform Sorare as they seek to expand their international fan base.

With the fantasy football sector currently worth nearly £14 billion ($18.6 billion), the reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions Liverpool FC do not want to be left out of this bandwagon as they have embraced Ethereum-based fantasy soccer gaming platform Sorare.
Millennials are the driving force behind fantasy football
Liverpool FC is the latest entrant in the Sorare platform after UEFA Champions League Winners FC Bayern Munich joined earlier last month. Fantasy football is proving to be a lucrative sector with the Ethereum-powered platform already hosting more than 100 soccer clubs. This industry is speculated to be valued at nearly £36 billion ($48 billion) by 2027.
Millennials are a force to reckon with in fantasy football. This is alluded to by Sorare founder and CEO Nicolas Julia as he said:
“Millennials are increasingly tuning out of longer sports broadcast formats that don’t engage them. In an economy where the attention of audiences is the single most important unit of currency, games are becoming a new avenue for football brands to reach this highly specific yet desirable demographic.”
Tapping more fan base
Sorare is a fantasy soccer video game founded on the Ethereum blockchain that enables users to build their preferred teams and trade football player cards. These cards are limited and can be transferred as unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Moreover, the cards earn points on the foundation of every player’s respective real-world weekly performance.
By leveraging Sorare’s blockchain-powered services, Liverpool FC seeks to expand its international brand by getting the attention of various untapped audiences like gamers, as well as Asian and American fans. Sorare users will be able to trade digital cards based on Liverpool’s top players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk.
By creating unique digital tokens and signing top football clubs to its fantasy platform, Sorare seeks to boost digital assets and blockchain adoption in daily life. The football player cards used are based on blockchain technology, and they comprise of built-in scarcity.
