Algorand (ALGO) Pauses xGov Program, Focuses on Post-Quantum Security
Algorand (ALGO) announces updates, including xGov program suspension, staking rewards extension, and a focus on post-quantum security for Web3.
Algorand (ALGO) has announced significant updates to its community initiatives and strategic direction, emphasizing its commitment to post-quantum security and a sustainable network model. These changes include the indefinite suspension of the xGov program, adjustments to advisory councils, and a reaffirmation of staking rewards through January 2028.
xGov Program and Forum Closure
The xGov program, which brought together community members for proposal submissions, voting, and discussions, will be paused indefinitely starting December 6, 2026. The Algorand Forum, primarily used for xGov-related discussions, will also close on November 6, 2026, with a read-only archive made available. Algorand encourages developers and ecosystem participants to transition to its Discord channel for updates and support.
Changes to Advisory Councils
The Ecosystem Advisory Council (EAC), established in January 2026 to facilitate communication between the community and Algorand leadership, will be concluded as a company-run body effective November 6, 2026. Similarly, Algorand will end its sponsorship of the Algorand Technical Council (ATC). However, periodic Developer Council meetings will continue, with invitations available upon request via Discord.
Staking Rewards and Project King Safety
Algorand reaffirmed its commitment to staking rewards, extending them through January 2028. This reflects the platform’s focus on rewarding node runners and stakers who secure the network. Concurrently, Algorand has paused Project King Safety as a roadmap item. Plans to lift the ALGO supply cap, enable maximum extractable value (MEV), and increase minimum transaction fees are no longer under consideration. However, usage-based transaction fees, such as those for Falcon-1024 post-quantum accounts, may still be introduced or adjusted in the future.
Focus on Post-Quantum Security
Post-quantum security remains central to Algorand’s strategy. Since 2022, the platform has implemented Falcon state-proof keys and quantum-resistant transactions, culminating in native post-quantum accounts in 2026. Algorand aims to extend these capabilities to the broader Web3 ecosystem, enabling custodians, wallet providers, and other networks to adopt post-quantum security without overhauling existing systems. This focus aligns with Algorand’s goal of building a sustainable, revenue-generating network while maintaining its cryptographic security leadership.
