The Hong Kong Monetary Authority alerts the public about phishing messages impersonating China CITIC Bank International, urging caution against sharing personal information.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning to the public regarding phishing messages falsely representing China CITIC Bank International Limited. These fraudulent instant messages have been reported to the HKMA, according to the authority's recent press release.
Phishing Tactics and Public Advisory
The HKMA emphasizes that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct individuals to their websites for transactions. Furthermore, banks will not request sensitive personal information, such as login credentials or One-Time Passwords, via phone, email, or SMS. The HKMA advises the public to remain vigilant and not to disclose personal information in response to such messages.
Action for Affected Individuals
Individuals who suspect they have shared personal information or conducted transactions in response to these phishing messages are urged to contact China CITIC Bank International using the contact details provided in the official press release. Additionally, they should report the incident to the Police by reaching out to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.
