Italy collaborates with NVIDIA, propelling a new industrial era through sovereign AI, with significant advancements in AI infrastructure and development, enhancing Italy's competitive edge in Europe.
Italy is at the forefront of a new industrial renaissance, driven by its strategic partnerships with NVIDIA in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). The nation's commitment to sovereign AI is transforming its industrial landscape, enhancing its design and manufacturing heritage, according to NVIDIA's blog.
Advancement in AI Infrastructure
Italy is collaborating with NVIDIA to bolster its domestic AI infrastructure, leveraging an ecosystem of NVIDIA Cloud Partners and telecom providers such as Fastweb. Fastweb has implemented Italy’s first NVIDIA DGX H100 supercomputer, which is pivotal in developing an Italian language model for generative AI applications.
Domyn, a model builder, is working with NVIDIA on a large AI factory powered by 5,760 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs. This collaboration is set to advance Italy's sovereign AI capabilities significantly.
Government and Industry Collaboration
The Italian Ministry of Enterprise and the Made in Italy initiative are key players in this transformation, working alongside Domyn to enhance sovereign AI capabilities with advanced reasoning models. This collaboration aims to provide secure and competitive access to data management for businesses, as emphasized by Minister Adolfo Urso.
Moreover, CINECA, a major player in high-performance computing, is expanding its capabilities with a new AI factory, adding to its already impressive 15,000 GPUs in the Leonardo supercomputer. This facility will further support research computing and Italian startups.
NVIDIA's Role in Industrial AI Gains
Vertiv, a digital infrastructure provider, is contributing to this initiative by delivering AI-ready, modular data center infrastructure for the Domyn Colosseum development. This center will utilize NVIDIA Omniverse for real-time simulations, significantly reducing deployment times.
Domyn's AI data center plans to use NVIDIA Llama Nemotron models for developing AI agent platforms with advanced reasoning models. This setup will support large-scale AI solutions in highly regulated industries.
Educational Initiatives and Workforce Development
In addition to technological advancements, Italy is focusing on developing an AI-skilled workforce. Through collaborations with universities and research institutes, NVIDIA’s AI Technology Center program has trained over 3,000 academics. This initiative is critical for preparing future workforces to drive innovation and economic resilience.
NVIDIA's Deep Learning Institute offers courses globally to promote AI education and certification, aligning with Italy's commitment to fostering a competitive and innovative production system.
