NVIDIA and Deloitte are introducing AI-driven digital agents aimed at enhancing patient experience and streamlining healthcare operations, leveraging NVIDIA AI Enterprise platform.
NVIDIA has partnered with Deloitte to deploy AI-driven digital agents in the healthcare sector, aiming to revolutionize patient interactions and streamline operations. According to NVIDIA Blog, this collaboration is focused on creating virtual agents that can provide patients with critical information before they even arrive at the hospital.
AI Agents to Enhance Patient Experience
The AI agents, developed using NVIDIA AI, are designed to engage in natural, human-like conversations with patients, offering answers and guidance ahead of hospital visits. These digital teammates can assist with preadmission processes, easing patient anxiety by providing reliable information about procedures and hospital logistics.
The Frontline AI Teammate, a key component of this initiative, is powered by the NVIDIA AI Enterprise platform. It leverages avatars, generative AI, and large language models to facilitate multilingual communication, ensuring no patient is disadvantaged due to language barriers. This technology aims to reduce the administrative burden on healthcare providers by handling routine inquiries, thus freeing up capacity for direct patient care.
Advanced Technologies Supporting Digital Humans
The digital agents utilize NVIDIA NIM microservices and the NVIDIA ACE suite, which integrate AI, graphics, and simulation technologies to create lifelike digital humans. These agents can perform various tasks, from scheduling appointments to answering complex healthcare questions, thus enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of healthcare services.
Additionally, the NeMo Megatron-Turing 530B large language model supports the digital agents in understanding and processing patient data accurately, contributing to a more personalized healthcare experience. This initiative is particularly timely as The Ottawa Hospital plans its New Campus Development, emphasizing the importance of responsible and transparent technology adoption.
Improving Patient Preparation and Reducing Anxiety
Healthcare facilities, such as The Ottawa Hospital, are already implementing these AI agents to improve patient readiness and reduce pre-procedure stress. Patients can access the digital teammate 24/7 via various devices, ensuring they receive consistent and accurate information. This approach not only enhances patient preparedness but also potentially leads to better health outcomes by improving adherence to treatment protocols.
Feedback from user testing highlighted the clarity and relevance of the information provided by the AI agents, indicating their potential to significantly enhance the patient experience. Deloitte is extending this technology to other healthcare institutions, with a pilot program at The Ottawa Hospital expected to launch by the year's end.
