NVIDIA and Uber Partner to Propel Autonomous Driving with Level 4 Robotaxis

NVIDIA has announced a significant collaboration with Uber to enhance the global expansion of autonomous driving networks. This partnership aims to scale the world’s largest Level 4-ready mobility network using NVIDIA's advanced DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 platform, as reported by the NVIDIA Newsroom.

NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 Platform

The DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 platform is a comprehensive compute and sensor architecture that facilitates the development of Level 4 autonomous vehicles. It allows automakers and developers to create safe, scalable AI-defined fleets. The platform includes a production computer and sensor set architecture that can host any compatible autonomous-driving software, providing a unified foundation for mobility.

This collaboration will enable Uber to integrate human and autonomous vehicles into a single operational network. The goal is to launch a ride-hailing service that includes both human and robot drivers, powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion-ready vehicles. Uber plans to scale its global autonomous fleet to 100,000 vehicles by 2027, supported by a joint AI data factory built on the NVIDIA Cosmos platform.

Industry Collaboration and Advancements

Alongside Uber, major automotive and technology companies like Stellantis, Lucid, and Mercedes-Benz are engaging with NVIDIA to develop Level 4-ready autonomous vehicles. These collaborations aim to enhance passenger mobility and extend Level 4 autonomy to long-haul freight, with companies like Aurora and Volvo Autonomous Solutions participating in the trucking sector.

The partnership also includes the launch of the NVIDIA Halos Certified Program, which establishes safety standards for autonomous vehicles and robotics. This initiative will help ensure the safe, scalable deployment of autonomous fleets globally.

Future of Autonomous Mobility

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated that this partnership marks the beginning of a global transformation in mobility, making transportation safer, cleaner, and more efficient. Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, emphasized the transformative impact of autonomous mobility on cities, expressing excitement about the collaboration with NVIDIA.

The integration of NVIDIA's AI models, including foundation AI models and generative AI, will enable self-driving systems to navigate complex urban environments with human-like reasoning and adaptability. This technological advancement is set to redefine the future of transportation.

As NVIDIA and Uber continue to support their partners in developing autonomous vehicle software, the collaboration underscores a commitment to advancing the autonomous driving ecosystem and realizing the potential of AI-driven mobility solutions.
