Republican Election Euphoria Spurs $2.2 Billion Inflows into Digital Assets

Digital asset investment products witnessed a significant influx of $2.2 billion last week, driven by the optimism surrounding a potential Republican victory in the upcoming elections. According to CoinShares, this surge has elevated the year-to-date inflows to an unprecedented $29.2 billion.

Record-breaking Year-to-Date Inflows

The recent increase in inflows, coupled with price appreciation, has propelled the total assets under management (AuM) to over $100 billion for only the second time in history. This matches the levels observed in early June 2024, standing at $102 billion. The trading volumes also saw a notable rise, increasing by 67% week-on-week to $19.2 billion, which accounts for 35% of total Bitcoin trading on trusted exchanges.

Regional Inflows and Market Reaction

The United States emerged as the primary contributor to these inflows, accounting for the entire $2.2 billion. Germany, on the other hand, recorded minor inflows of $5.1 million. The inflows were primarily observed in the early days of the week, reflecting the market's sensitivity to the electoral developments in the U.S. However, minor outflows were reported on Friday as the polls fluctuated.

Bitcoin Leads the Surge

Bitcoin was the primary beneficiary of this inflow, receiving the full $2.2 billion. Despite the positive sentiment, the recent price appreciation also led to $8.9 million being directed into short-bitcoin positions. Ethereum's performance was relatively subdued, with tepid inflows amounting to $9.5 million. This stands in contrast to the bullish trends observed in Bitcoin and Solana, the latter of which attracted an additional $5.7 million last week.

Altcoin Movements

While Bitcoin and Solana captured the majority of attention, a variety of altcoins experienced minor inflows. Polkadot and Arbitrum were among the notable altcoins, with inflows of $0.67 million and $0.2 million, respectively. These movements highlight the diversified interest in digital assets beyond the leading cryptocurrencies.
