Female Coders Accounted for Less Than 5% in Github Commits

Journalist Corin Faife published his findings in Medium and found that less than 5% of 1 million code commits across top 100 cryptocurrency projects in Github are females.
The author gathered 1,026,804 codes contributed among the top 100 projects for data analysis. While 691,134 of those codes are identified by male username (67.3%), there are only 47,678 of those codes are contributed by developers with female usernames (4.64%). The gender of submitting the remaining 287,992 (28%) commits cannot be determined.
Moreover, a study conducted by BIZZABO showed that there are only 21% female participants in more than 100 cryptocurrency events. In addition, almost 70% of all event speakers are male according to the Gender Diversity & Inclusion in Events Report published by BIZZABO. Alon Alroy, Co-founder of BIZZABO said “Like the tech industry, at large, there is a lack of gender diversity in the overall virtual currencies space.”
