NVIDIA collaborates with the European Broadcasting Union to develop sovereign AI frameworks, enhancing the autonomy and innovation of public broadcasters across Europe.

NVIDIA and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) for European public service media. The collaboration was unveiled during the NVIDIA GTC Paris event at VivaTech, emphasizing the development of high-quality cloud and AI technologies tailored for the media industry.
Strengthening European Media Landscape
The EBU, a leading alliance of public service media with over 110 member organizations across more than 50 countries, is set to leverage this partnership to build sovereign AI and cloud frameworks. The initiative aims to bolster workforce development and cultivate an AI ecosystem that aligns with European values and regulations, enhancing the media landscape's equity, accessibility, and resilience.
This collaboration will facilitate the deployment of AI technologies that prioritize local governance and public trust. By utilizing European cloud infrastructure, the initiative ensures compliance with European data protection and privacy rules, thereby preserving cultural identity and fostering innovation that meets regional needs.
Innovative AI Frameworks and Training
NVIDIA and the EBU will work together to establish hybrid cloud architectures that meet the rigorous standards of European public service media. The EBU's Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) and Media eXchange Layer (MXL) architecture will play a crucial role in achieving interoperability and scalability, promoting cost- and energy-efficient AI training.
Through this partnership, public service media companies will gain access to tools for delivering personalized services and content recommendations, focusing on transparency and cultural sensitivity. The initiative will also invest in sovereign cloud and AI infrastructures, including NVIDIA AI Enterprise and large language models trained with local data.
In support of developing an AI-ready workforce, NVIDIA is providing resources from its Deep Learning Institute, offering comprehensive training programs to European media organizations. This effort aligns with the EBU's commitment to maintaining news integrity in the era of AI.
Enhancing Sovereign Cloud and AI Capabilities
The collaboration involves significant investments in local data centers and cloud platforms, such as NVIDIA's GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip and DGX Cloud. These investments are designed to ensure secure, cost-efficient AI training while promoting AI research and development within the union's member organizations.
NVIDIA and the EBU are also engaging with independent software vendors, data center providers, and cloud service providers to create a unified approach to sovereign cloud and AI. This initiative aims to foster a shared foundation of trust, innovation, and resilience, supporting the growth of European media.
Antonio Arcidiacono, the EBU's chief technology and innovation officer, emphasized the importance of cross-industry collaboration in building sovereign cloud and AI capabilities. By partnering with NVIDIA and other media technology entities, the EBU seeks to establish comprehensive standards and best practices that benefit both the general public and media organizations.
